Google Chrome has a new feature, tab groups, that enable you to group tabs that are piling up on your browser. Though it was introduced in Chrome in May 2020. The feature is available on both Android and desktop.
You can browse about specific stuff in each tab group, this helps you to organize and clean your browser. Using Google Chrome tab groups allows you to switch between different web pages easily.
Previously you were not able to browse in groups, and this will let your browsing page be disorganized. But with the new feature on Chrome, you can group everything you want to do with your browsers.
From social media to finding information, and researching on a topic to your money tab. If you haven’t updated your chrome browser you should probably do because tab groups are available as default now.
The Chrome grouping style is an interesting way to browse the web, with the tab, you’re able to organize and easily navigate to. Enabling tab groups on your Android device is a different thing entirely from your desktop but it isn’t that hard, it’s just a drag and drop thing, you got this.
How to enable group tab on mobile
Before you can enable the group tab on Google Chrome mobile browser, your Android version needs to be 7 or higher. And you should update your browser if you haven’t in a very long time.
The now updated Chrome comes with tab groups as default, which means you don’t have to go to “chrome flags” to set it up. If you haven’t updated your browser here is go you can enable tab groups.
1. Open your Chrome mobile browser and tap on the address bar. And then copy this “chrome://flags” to your browser address bar.
2. The flags is an inbuilt Chrome setting that lets you customize your browser. On the flags page that says ‘search for flags’ type ‘groups’ and a list of flags will appear.
3. On the flags that say “Tab Groups”
— Allows users to create groups to better organize their tabs on phones. – Android. Click on the drop-down menu and select ‘Enabled’.
Do the same for “Tab Groups Continuation,” and “Tab Groups UI Improvements” to better organize your group tab. Once you’ve done that you just have to relaunch your Chrome browser—or remove the app from the minimize menu and relaunch the app.
Once you’ve relaunched the Chrome app you’ll see the group tab feature on your browser. You can now organize and browse clean on your mobile phone. If you want to organize the open tabs you can hold the tab and drag it to another to create a separate group.

How to ungroup and close tab groups
To remove a website from the tab groups long-press on a tab and drag it to the “Remove from group” area at the bottom of the tab group.
To close a tab in the group, tap on the close (x) button. Your tab will then be removed from the group.
Or from the group tab click (^) and then tap on the three-dot at the top right corner after the (+) symbol, and click on “Remove tabs from the group”. Select the tab and click on Remove.
If you decide you want to remove the group tab completely, click on the tab switcher at the top right of your browser to access all the groups. Tap on (x) to close the group permanently or swipe the tab to left or right to remove.
How to enable group tab on desktop
If you want to enable tab groups for Chrome on your laptop or desktop computer you might not see it anywhere for you to enable it.
Because the feature is already enabled. So how can you use it? To use the group tab on a desktop computer, drag and drop the tab on another tab to group it.
On Android devices, you can group your tabs and label them with a custom name but can’t set a specific color for the group. Once the tabs are grouped, you can move and reorder them on the tab strip.
1. To start grouping tab on your laptop or desktop computer, you’ll need to first open all your favorite websites, and then right-click on a tab and select “Add To New Group” from the context menu.
2. Once you click add to new group, a small colored circle will appear next to the tab. From here you can start customizing and adding tabs to the groups. When you click the colored circle, the tab group menu will show you can now label and select a color for the group.
3. When you open a new tab and want to add them to a group right-click on the tab and click “Add to group”, and then select the group you’d like to add them to (if you’ve created more than one group). All tabs in the same group will be underlined by the color you’ve chosen.

Adding tabs
If you’ve already created a tab group and you want to add a New Tab to the existing group, click on the group label and click on “New Tab In Group,” and it will appear alowngside other tabs in the group.
To add a tab already open on your browser to an existing group, right-click the tab and click “Add To Existing Group,” and then choose any of the groups you want to add it to. Or you can drag and drop a tab over into the existing tab group.
Ungroup and remove tabs
If you want to remove a specific tab in a group, right-click on the tab and select “Remove from group.” You can also drag the tab from the group and drop it as a standalone tab.
To ungroup or close everything in a tab group you’ve previously created click on the group name and then click “Ungroup” or “Close group” from the display menu.

Tab groups are where to keep our favorite website organise. Using the tab groups will help you keep your browser clean and help separate work from play. With this, you can focus on the important task at hand and do things easier. Using the tab groups can also let you navigate from one group to another easily.
